Wool and Recycled Carpeting

Environmentally friendly materials are being used more and more by builders and homeowners for home remodels and new construction.  Wool and recycled carpeting is used as an alternative to traditional floor coverings because of their eco-friendly benefits. Traditional carpet contains pollutants that can cause many illnesses such as allergic reactions when used, therefore, not only can individuals benefit from environmentally friendly materials, they can avoid the illnesses caused by the chemicals used to make carpeting.

Builders and homeowners that are searching for a method to cut down on VOC’s in the form of polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride have found that carpets made of wool is the answer to their dilemma. Wool is biodegradable. By adding natural rubber backing to the carpet, the whole carpet becomes “green” or eco-friendly because it is totally biodegradable.
 
Recycled Carpet
Carpet manufacturers have found a cost effective way to help the environment with recycled materials. Carpets made of nylon 6 are totally recyclable. Many other types of old carpet are used creating twenty five to one hundred percent recyclable materials. Many carpet manufacturers are giving rebates or discounts to homeowners that want to replace their carpet if they bring in the old carpet as they purchase new carpet.
It is possible with the technologies being used to become a “green” homeowner or business owner with the use of natural fiber carpeting. Natural carpets endure for many years, repel dirt and provide beautiful floor covering. Check the carpet labels for a “Green Label” that indicates that this carpet is made of natural fibers or recycled materials. As citizens of the earth, everyone has a responsibility to preserve and sustain the materials of the earth.
