Photovoltaics Solar Panels

Three Trends in Solar Panels and Solar Lighting

Photovoltaics solar is the field of technology and research dedicated to the application of solar cells for energy by converting solar energy directly into electricity. Since 2002, photovoltaics solar production has been doubling every two years, increased tremendously, making it the world’s fastest-growing energy technology. Here are three emerging trends in the photovoltaics solar industry:

Building Integrated Photovoltaics

This is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the photovoltaics solar industry, and is increasingly being integrated into new domestic and industrial buildings as a main or auxiliary source of electrical power. PV may also be used together with wind, diesel generators and/or hydroelectric power.

Organic Photovoltaics

Organic photovoltaics (OPV) are new types of semiconductors based on organic materials. OPVs, which are still in the research phase, can be made as thin flexible sheets, and as such they can be integrated into fabric or paper. Because of the fact that they are flexible they can be mass-produced at low cost. The ability to create a semiconductor out of organic materials is new, and opens the door to a whole new array of possibilities. Spray-on Solar Cells Spray-on solar technology can be woven into every aspect of daily life, from our clothes to our roads. Scientist Ted Sargent is working on nanotechnology with the potential to make solar energy extremely low-cost and allow society to collect it on a vast scale. This technology focuses on the infrared portion of the sun’s rays, which accounts for more than half of all solar energy. What do you have to do to use photovoltaics solar for your home? Ensure your roof has a spot for one of these energy-saving photovoltaic arrays, facing south, that’s not shaded by nearby trees or buildings. Then decide whether you’ll do it yourself, or call in the experts.
