Cork Floor Tiles
Installing and Maintaining Cork Floor Tiles
Cork floor tiles are similar to parquet but with the additional benefit of insulation against noise and extremes in temperature. Attractive to look at, yet easy to look after, cork is the ideal floor, quiet, soft and warm to the touch, but strong enough to handle all types of traffic – pets, kids, high heels. It fits any décor, yet shields you against noise and changes in temperature. Natural cork enriches any interior and helps reduced deforestation because no trees are felled to produce it. A cork floor is always the right choice, no matter which room you choose to put it in. Here are some facts that may help you as you make your choice:
Fact One: Cork floor tiles are easy to maintain
Good cork floor maintenance requires that you vacuum regularly or clean your floor with a damp cloth (do not use water to clean the floor). Furniture legs that can scratch the floor should be covered with felt disks.
Fact Two: Cork floor tiles are eco-friendly
Cork floors offer some exceptional qualities that other types of flooring cannot. The tiles are soft and sponge-like. They absorb loud noises, and even better, they provide natural insulation for your home, making it more efficient at maintaining a comfortable temperature. Cork is also a rapidly renewable resource, made from the bark of the cork oak tree, and no trees are felled to produce it.
Fact Three: A flooring professional can install your cork floor tiles in just a few days
Cork flooring tiles are manufactured in 12-inch squares and are attached to a sub-surface with flooring glue. The preparation requirements are the same regardless of the sub-surface. Your flooring professional will have to patch any cracks or holes or repair uneven areas. Moisture content of the sub floor must be checked per manufacturer’s recommendations. After installation, you will need to leave your floor to dry completely, usually about 24 hours, before you can walk on it.
