Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring

Eco-Friendly Floor Coverings - A Solid Wood Product

Exotic Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring – Now a Popular Choice

Strand woven bamboo flooring is made by weaving strands of the plant together and treating them with an adhesive. These strands are leftovers from the manufacturing process of standard bamboo planks, and rather than trash them, they are immediately recycled to make a high-quality flooring product. They are then compressed and cut into different size boards. This is one of the most stable materials that can be used for flooring, because of its durability. It is also allergen-free and easy to maintain.

It’s fairly easy to install strand woven bamboo flooring, since the pieces are all of the same measurement, and just need to be joined together. Many consumers install these floors themselves. Future refinishing is easy, as the floor can be sanded in the same way as other types of flooring. Routine cleaning is also easy – just sweep it daily and mop occasionally using vinegar and water.

One of the considerations when using strand woven bamboo flooring is that nailing it down can be quite difficult. Gluing is the preferable method of attachment, because of the thick structure of strand woven bamboo. Nails can actually crack the flooring and damage the tongues.

Strand woven bamboo flooring has been used in Southeast Asia for centuries, and has gained popularity in the US market over the last few years. Unfortunately, many of the Asian companies lack the ability to produce strand woven products, and their production has been limited to six-foot planks, which has become the standard for this type of flooring.

Not only does strand woven bamboo flooring look like real wood, but it is also twice as hard as regular bamboo due to its manufacturing process. The process creates a look that is unique to bamboo and does not resemble true wood grain. This makes it a superior option for high traffic and commercial use.
