Wooden Pallet Recycling – How to Get Creative with Wooden Pallets

Do you have access to a supply of wooden pallets? Wooden pallet recycling is taking off, and homeowners are using the pallets to make compost bins, birdhouses, and a host of other household projects. You can even use the pallets to make a tool shed, chicken coop, or doghouse. So how can you create a project and become a part of the wooden pallet recycling movement?

Here’s How You Can Use Wooden Pallet Recycling to Get a Quick and Cheap Source of Lumber for All Your Projects

Pallets are timber platforms used for shipping and storing goods. You can make cabinets and flooring with the pallets, and a number of other things. Pieces that cannot be used in these projects can be ground into mulch pellets for lawn and garden use. They can be safely burned as firewood if they’re free of contaminants.

Many people engage in wooden pallet recycling to make compost bins. You just need to attach three pallets with balling wire to form a U shape to make the first bin, with two pallets for each additional bin. Once the wire is tight enough the bins will be sturdy. Composting is easy with this system: just begin at the top and fork into the closest vacant bin, then do the next heap into the bin you just emptied, etc.

If you live in an area where there is a lot of manufacturing, it should be easy to find wooden pallets that you can recycle. Many business owners have to pay for the disposal of excess pallets, and they would be happy to let you cart away as many as you can carry as a form of waste management or waste disposal. There is a whole industry dedicated to the reuse of wooden pallets and containers, and these are also an excellent source of the pallets, though you may have to pay to acquire them.
