Cellulose Insulation Machine: Are You Installing Your Insulation Correctly?

To know whether you’re making correct preparations to insulate your home with cellulose, answer these three simple questions:
- Have you measured your coverage area?
You should measure your wall area by width and length to establish how many square feet you need to cover. If you’re doing the project yourself, rent the cellulose insulation machine and purchase the material from a distributor. You’ll also need to purchase wall plugs to fit the holes where you will put in the hose to blow insulation into your wall.
- Do you know what’s in the wall now?
Existing insulation may make it hard for installation insulation. Inspect your walls and remove existing insulation to make room for the cellulose. Some home centers will provide you with a cellulose insulation machine. If this machine not powerful enough to blow insulation into your wall cavities, rent one to do the job. The blown in cellulose should compact closely around wires, plumbing and other penetrations providing a sealed insulating cover with a somewhat elevated R-value approaching R-4 per inch.
- Have you decided on how much you’re willing to spend?
Usually cellulose insulation is more expensive than the more common batt insulation, and you need to factor in the rental of the cellulose insulation machine where necessary. If you’re doing it yourself, you should also consider the time and patience you expend, the special clothing needed, and any other equipment used (such as drills). Of course, you can always outsource the job, and have the best insulation completed in just a few hours with no trouble.
